Stylist reveals: A fashion expert would never buy these 5 pieces

Have you ever wondered what a professional stylist would say about your closet? So we already. That's why we asked a fashion expert for her opinion – and took the opportunity to dust off a few tips.

Even the most passionate fashionista treads one or the other fashion faux pas. How nice would it be to be able to rely on the expertise of a stylist on a daily basis? Of course we "normal" women can only dream of that … Not true! We met a professional stylist and asked for tips on how to ALWAYS be well dressed. Spoiler: With the right hacks, it's not that difficult!

The Cinderella of the German fashion industry

The Brothers Grimm couldn't have imagined Anna Borisovna's success story more beautifully: Born in Russia, Anna started her professional career as a down-to-earth hotel specialist until she turned her passion for fashion into a profession and today as a fashion blogger, freelance stylist and style consultant for luxury brands such as Massimo Dutti works. The fashionista gives us a crash course in style:

Every woman needs these must-haves:

1. The perfect jeans

Well-fitting jeans are one of the most important essentials in every wardrobe. Ok, maybe not just one, it would have to be three types of jeans: high waisted, boyfriend and cropped jeans.

2. Statement blazer

Every woman needs a statement blazer. Oversized models are popular – they go with everything, whether with jeans, skirts, shorts, dresses, wide or narrow pants. I have several in different colors and fabrics.

3. Midi skirt

A midi skirt is an absolute highlight for playful, cool and outfits suitable for going out. In summer, light colors are a hit and in winter I go for dark tones like brown, khaki or black.

4. The classic coat

It's worth investing here: I'm already saving on my first Max Mara Coat. The coat is a classic and will never go out of style.

5. Statement jewelry

I wear my jewelry every day – whether it's casual or to go out. Only he gives my outfit the spice. With the right jewelry, you can upgrade any look within seconds. I am also happy to mix high-quality items with costume jewelry.

We should do without:

1. Same same but different

Most of us are probably familiar with the problem: Some parts are always picked up again and again – even if you already have a large number of them hanging in your closet one way or another. A no-go, the fashion expert knows:

It's great when you've found your style and know what suits you. But you shouldn't overdo it: If the wardrobe consists of the same jeans in five different shades of blue, it gets boring.

2. Sale mistakes

Oh yeah … caught: As soon as we see the bright red percent signs, we feel like shopping. Anna advises:

Don't rush to sell goods! Always thinks: is the part worth it for me at full price? Or do I just want it because I can get a supposed bargain here?

3. Inferior materials

We know it: Quality over quantity – with one small exception:

High-quality materials are particularly important to me and I like to spend a little more on them. Because there is nothing worse than having to throw away your favorite sweater after just one season. However, polyester is often an exception: some clothes need a certain proportion of polyester or acrylic so that the garment gets the right shine and shape.

4. Clothing that is too tight

If in doubt, prefer oversize:

The clothes you buy should be nice and flowing, loose and not too tight. Don't always look at the size. Sometimes a size bigger looks much, much better! When it comes to my clothes, I always go for one or two sizes larger and style a cool belt with it.

5. Fashion victim

Not every latest trend works for everyone, Anna knows that too:

The best thing to do here is: Always listen to your gut feeling and not to others – you just have to make sure that you feel comfortable with your look. When in doubt, better skip a trend than look disguised. Also: I usually buy seasonal trends cheaply from big players like Zara or Mango. I prefer to invest more in classic parts.

Finally, the expert advises not to lose courage and enthusiasm for fashion:

It also took me a long time to find my "Anna look". It was a long way – with many bad purchases that are now in the basement. But it was still worth it!

And for all the impatient, it is worth taking a look at Anna's Instagram account – there the Munich-based woman provides daily styling inspiration.
