Styrian balance sheet – heating exchange: record demand for subsidies

The consequences of climate change are becoming more and more noticeable in Styria. In order to counteract this, climate protection councilor Ursula Lackner significantly increased the funds for the heating replacement and the associated energy advice at the beginning of the year. The balance up to September 2021 shows: Compared to 2020, there is a strong increase in funding applications with a plus of 54 percent.

“If we want to keep Styria worth living in, we have to move away from fossil fuels,” says Ursula Lackner and adds: “The current figures show that our efforts are working.”

Specifically, this means for the period from January to the end of September 2021: 3899 subsidy applications for heating replacement were submitted (an increase of 54 percent compared to 2020), 2859 subsidies with a volume of 6.73 million euros were processed and paid out (6th , 73 million euros) (increase of 30 percent), another 560 funding cases are being processed and are about to be paid out.

Advisory services as the key to success
From the funding process to advice on which heating system to use: If you have any questions or are unclear, the energy advisors in the regions are on hand to provide support. For Lackner, at whose request the funds for energy consulting were recently increased by a further 500,000 euros, this is a key success factor.

More than 100,000 oil heating systems in Styria
In 2020 around 106,000 oil heating systems and around 62,000 gas heating systems were still in operation in Styria. Funding is provided for exchanging fossil heating systems, all-burners and electric heating for automatically charged pellet or wood chip boilers. The state is injecting up to 3700 euros.

For log and combi boilers it is up to 2300 euros and for heat pumps up to 3600 euros. A subsidy of up to 1400 euros is possible when switching to local or district heating. Anyone who builds a solar thermal system or water-based hybrid system can receive funding of up to 7,000 euros, depending on the size.
