Who remembers when it was said that the arrival of traditional manufacturers on the electric car market would spell the death of Tesla? Well the least we can say is that the American firm has managed to face this competition without flinching, to the point that its Model Y would have become the best-selling car in the world in 2023.
However, the family electric SUV has no shortage of rivals. Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya, Subaru Solterra… so many models competing with the Model Y, but which fail to display such competitive prices. So their manufacturers continue to reduce prices, made necessary by those of the Model Y, in order to try to exist alongside the bestseller of Tesla.
The big sale of electric SUVs
After the Toyota bZ4X, it is the turn of its technical cousin, the Subaru Solterra, to announce a significant price reduction.
From March 1 to June 30, 2024, Subaru is offering a discount of €11,390 on the two finishes of the model: Comfort (€59,990) and Luxury (€63,990). This allows the Solterra to display a starting price of €48,600 once the discount is taken into account, or €499/month for a long-term rental of 60 months and 50,000 km, after a first rent of €5,000.
As a reminder, the Subaru Solterra is automatically equipped with a configuration with two electric motors and four-wheel drive, while the Toyota bZ4X also offers an entry-level traction version. The Solterra develops 160 kW, or 218 hp, and its 71.4 kWh battery allows it a maximum range of 465 km in the WLTP cycle.
Unfortunately, as impressive as it is, this discount fails to make the Solterra a particularly competitive model. Indeed, its technical cousin, the Toyota bZ4X, costs €41,900 discount deducted in the AWD version, which is quite interesting. The price difference between the two models is therefore significant, even though Subaru’s reputation and network pale in comparison to those of Toyota in France.
As for the Tesla Model Y, it is certainly sold from €49,990 in the four-wheel drive Long Autonomy version – not as competitive as the Propulsion version eligible for the bonus – but it offers 533 km of range and better performance than the Solterra.
