Success in Poland – EuroSkills: Austrians celebrate 18 medals

Seven times gold, six times silver and five times bronze: That is the result of the professional European Championship EuroSkills 2023 in Gdansk, Poland. The jubilation among the award-winning young specialists was enormous. The Graz resident Anna Maria Theurl (fashion technology) won gold, as did the beautician Lara Tynnauer from Graz. The Birkfeld furniture maker Jürgen Perhofer won silver, receptionist Denise Gringl won bronze.

What else if not “I Am From Austria” by Rainhard Fendrich? When the 44 Austrians arrived at the official reception on Saturday evening after three days full of stress, concentration and work, there was huge cheering – even though it was not yet clear who won which medal. Everyone who took part won – that’s for sure. “I have goosebumps. Austria is proud of you. All the best!” said Skills Austria President Josef Herk during his speech.Medal roundsThe final result was finally clear on Saturday evening: The red-white-red team can celebrate winning 18 medals! “Great feeling!”As Furniture carpenter Jürgen Perhofer was the first Styrian to collect a medal – his side table earned him second place on the podium. “This feeling is so cool. This is what I always wanted!” Will the award change his work? “I hope that it will be helpful that I was here.” Gold as a surprise Anna Maria Theurl, who lives in Graz, and Lisa Lintschinger from Salzburg were particularly happy when they competed together in the field of fashion technology – and won gold! “Indescribable, it cannot be put into words!” says Theurl. The victory was a surprise for both of them. “We actually rated ourselves worse because the conditions were difficult. You can always see the mistakes in yourself.” In the end, the parka in the Pirates of the Caribbean design was enough for gold. By the way, the medal is cross-border. Theurl is an East Tyrolean who lives in Graz and works in Jennersdorf near Vossen, Lintschinger from Salzburg. Only five weeks of training led to victory. The gold medal Lara Tynnauer from Graz would not have thought possible. The beautician stepped in just five weeks ago. “A lot of things in the competition were completely different than in everyday life – you have less time, less space.” Tynnauer returns to working life “even more motivated and with even more joy”. The other participants of the Austrian team will now celebrate. “I remained myself.” The hotel receptionist Denise Gringl from Studenzen was happy about a bronze medal. “I remained myself and acted in situations the way I thought was right,” she explains her success. “The medal gets a place of honor.” Gold: Anna Maria Theurl and Lisa Lintschinger (Fashion Technology, Sbg/Stmk/Bgld/Ktn), Lara Tynnauer (Beauty Technology, Stmk), Timo-Nils Theisl (Tiler, Vbg), Sandra Berger ( Floristry, Upper Austria), Niklas Danninger (air conditioning technology, Upper Austria), Christoph Schipflinger and Stefan Winder (garden design, T), Anna Saurer (pastry chef, Vienna) Click through three days of EuroSkills: The highest gold award went to seven Austrians Austrian.
