Anton P. from Burgenland was quite astonished when his dog suddenly ran towards him with a newborn puppy in his mouth. But there was no trace of an owner or the mother animal. The “animal corner” visited the little ones in southern Burgenland.
During a break during a long drive, Anton P. also let his dog stretch his legs. The male disappeared into the long grass and shortly thereafter got back into the car with his master with an “object”. “He very carefully opened his mouth and laid a small ball of fur next to him. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said the amazed dog owner. Anton P. immediately went in search of clues to find out where the puppy came from. He found four other siblings some distance away, but even after a long wait there was no dog mom. He contacted Eleonore Schandl, who runs a kennel in Burgenland, and described the case. Feeding by hand The courageous animal lover immediately agreed to take care of the little ones. “They still had their eyes closed, the first night I fed them with a bottle every two hours,” Ms. Schandl tells us when asked. Successful rescueThe next day, the location where the puppies were found was searched again for clues. Lo and behold, the bitch crouched a little further away – guarding a stillborn puppy. She was carefully lured away and taken to the Schandl kennel as quickly as possible to be reunited with her babies. One heart and one soul The joy of seeing each other again was great, and the bitch immediately began cleaning and nursing her puppies.
