Successor to Bellingham?: BVB is targeting German national players

Successor to Bellingham?
BVB is targeting German internationals

Jude Bellingham leaves Borussia Dortmund and joins Real Madrid. In terms of sport, this is a huge loss for BVB, but financially it opens up great opportunities again. A lot of money should be invested, one candidate: Wolfsburg’s newly promoted Felix Nmecha.

According to media reports, Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing midfielder Felix Nmecha from VfL Wolfsburg. Borussia announced last week that midfield star Jude Bellingham is moving to Real Madrid for a transfer fee of at least 103 million euros. A large part of the transfer fee is said to be reinvested in the team to absorb the loss of the England international. According to the “Ruhr Nachrichten”, the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine” and the “Bild”, Nmecha should be one of the candidates for the German runner-up.

Nmecha made his debut in the 2-3 win over Belgium in the German national team. The Wolfsburg player is missing from the current squad for the international matches of the four-time world champion due to a bruised ankle. Felix Nmecha made 34 appearances for VfL last season, scoring four goals and providing six assists. He was one of the top performers in coach Niko Kovac’s team. The 22-year-old plays in Wolfsburg with his brother Lukas, who is two years his senior. The market value of Felix Nmecha, who has a contract in Wolfsburg until 2024, is estimated at eight million euros.

BVB announced their first new signing last week: Algerian international Ramy Bensebaini (28) is coming on a free transfer from league rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach and has signed a four-year contract. “Ramy is a player in his prime, he has gained a lot of national and international experience in the Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1, the Champions League and the Europa League and is also an integral part of the selection of his home country,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl: “We are sure that his sporting development is not over yet.”

Left-back Bensebaini is set to take over the role of Raphael Guerreiro in Dortmund, who turned down a contract extension and will likely move to Bayern Munich. The 53-time national player switched from the French first division team Stade Rennes to Gladbach in 2019. He played 113 competitive games (25 goals) for the foals. “I know what BVB is capable of and I’m sure that we as a team will build on the second half of the past year,” said Bensebaini.
