Suffered from the virus during her childbirth, she could not meet her daughter until 3 months after her birth

A young nurse gave birth to her daughter last October. Seriously infected with Covid-19 at the time, the mother was only able to hold her child in her arms 3 months later.

There are many recorded cases of pregnant women with Covid-19. Often the story ends well with more fear than harm for most moms and their babies who are doing very well. On January 27, 2021, an unusual story with complicated beginnings is shared by the Twitter account of the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge (link) where it took place.

A 30-year-old nurse who gave birth 3 months ago when she was severely affected by the virus was able to hold her daughter for the first time.

No memory of her childbirth

At the end of October, Eva Gicain was taken to hospital with serious complications from the coronavirus. 34 weeks pregnant, the young woman gave birth 1 week after we arrived. But her condition did not improve, Eva had to be transferred to the intensive care unit at the Royal Papworth, 50 miles from her daughter. The nurse is one of the youngest patients to be put on "artificial lung" for acute respiratory failure.

But, the mom has absolutely no memory of her childbirth, nor of the weeks of intensive care she went through. “The first thing I remember is a few days before Christmas I was told where I was, what I had been through and that Elleana was fine."Said the young mother at the hospital.

A magical reunion

After weeks of care, Eva recovered from Covid-19 and was able to return home to find her daughter. Royal Papworth employees filmed the young woman's exit. On the video, we can see them applauding Eva. Much deserved applause, for spending her daughter's first 3 months away from her.
Eva's husband, Limuel, was unable to visit his wife or daughter because he too had contracted the virus. “It was so horrible to find the three of us in separate places when we should have been all together”, He delivered.

Little anecdote: Limuel had to register his daughter while his wife was hospitalized. He knew the first name, but he didn't know how Eva wanted to spell it. Fortunately, the dad came across some personalized pajamas that the new mom had bought for her daughter. The couple are now parents to baby Elleana!

Life is unpredictable and we now look forward to forming a small family and spending time together”Eva said with relief. We wish them lots of happiness!
