Suffering from psychological disorders, he is locked in a cage

This Seattle, Washington school is accused of discriminating against an 8-year-old black child with psychological disorders.

In 2019, View Ridge Elementary School located in Seattle, allegedly deliberately locked a child with psychological disorders in a cage in the playground. “The doors to the caged area were secured from the outside with a chain of padlocks under the direction of Principal (Ed) Roos”, indicates the trial, according to the Ny post.

The 8-year-old was then in this enclosed space, with no possibility of going out. He even has lunch on the floor without a seat or table. A scene that particularly surprised the students who compared the 8-year-old to “An animal within a zoo”.

A lawsuit for discrimination

This American school is being prosecuted for discrimination after an investigation was opened in 2020. The alert was given by the kindergarten teacher, Jaquelyn Flaherty, who denounces the inhuman and discriminatory treatment of the school “Because he was one of the only black children in a predominantly white and well-off school” […] “I have never seen, in all these years, a child locked up in an area like this”, says Jaquelyn. “It was like a cage.”

As for him, the former director of the establishment defends himself by indicating that “It was a calming zone” for rowdy students. He is also said to have resigned from his post.

According to the report, he was allegedly caged as he left the school grounds. “The boy, even if he has a complex educational image, always has the right to an education”, points out Seth Rosenberg, a family lawyer at the Washington Post.

The little boy, traumatized by the events, has since been transferred to another school, his mother asking for damages.
