Suicide of Lucas: revelations about the difficult daily life of his stalkers after the tragedy

The four stalkers of 13-year-old Lucas returned to school, as Le Parisien reported on Tuesday, March 14. However, their daily life has been very difficult since the tragedy.

It is a terrible drama that took place on January 7, in Golbey, in the Vosges. Lucas, only 13 years old, ended his life after being harassed for several months because of his homosexuality. Four of his classmates were indicted and then sent to court for “school bullying leading to suicide. While waiting to be tried next spring, behind closed doors, all four have returned to school. Monitored by the establishment, the Parisian explained this Tuesday, March 14 that their daily life is not easy. If some have returned to class “bragging“, a mother assures that it “didn’t last. Some are school dropouts, miss classes…”. One of them even ended up in the office of the CPE, “tears in the eyes“, is it specified. A very complicated situation for these students but also for the teachers, helpless. It’s the worst that could happen… We wonder what we could have done to avoid it“, confided one of them, upset.

The suicide of Lucas has caused a lot of talk since it has upset the French. When the four students returned to the classroom, “a week or even two after the tragedy“, their comrades did not expect it. The other children found out about their return quite late. It was a bit brutal. They were told that so-and-so is coming back, and that’s it. There was no preparation“, said a mother. Another said she was very annoyed by this decision. Why are they coming back? They should be fired!“, she asserted. Quickly, two investigations were opened. One for “school bullying leading to the suicide of the victim“, the other “against X for failure to report mistreatment of minors“. These are several people who were heard and members of the administration as well as comrades of Lucas spoke of the ordeal he suffered on a daily basis. “Lucas had no respite. Insults were everywhere: in the classroom, in the playground, in the canteen“, explained the mother of a friend. The teenager had been part of this college for a year and he had confided his sexual orientation to some of his comrades. A news that has spread and which earned him to be mocked and insulted.

Suicide of Lucas: did his comrades speak?

As part of these two investigations, the four students were heard on several occasions. Since Lucas’ suicide, his relatives have constantly spoken of the harassment he has been the victim of. “During their hearings, the respondents, two girls and two boys, educated in the same establishment as Lucas, only admitted to having repeatedly made fun of their comrade“, explained Frédéric Nahon, the public prosecutor, on January 27. The next day, it was Béatrice Founès, the lawyer for one of the accused, who spoke. “He … not absolutely not admit having harassed his comrade”, she first said before continuing:He is accused of acts of harassment, he strongly denies having said or committed any harassment whatsoever against Lucas”.
