Summer scene highlight – Finally, a quiet clubbing in the church

At the end of the summer scene, people danced silently in the church at the silent disco – or at least almost silently. Because one or two visitors couldn’t resist singing along.

A church as a discotheque with an oversized globe as a disco ball – this was the transformation that the Collegiate Church underwent on Saturday evening. There, people danced the night away. As part of the dance and performance festival Sommerszene, around 250 partygoers flocked to the “Silent Disco” with Oliver Hangl and Bonnie Callini. In this case, the DJs’ music could only be heard through headphones. But this circumstance did not limit the visitors’ joy of dancing. “It’s somehow strange, especially when you take the headphones off and hear people singing along, sometimes out of tune. But it’s really a lot of fun,” said one visitor. This year’s edition of Sommerszene came to an end with the relatively silent church dance. The organizers counted around 25,000 visitors over the 13 days of the festival. The occupancy rate was 93 percent. “The diverse program of this year’s Sommerszene elicited enthusiastic reactions from the audience and impressively demonstrated how important contemporary art is in Salzburg,” said festival curator Angela Glechner.
