The ethnic pattern is not new, but in the summer of 2022 it will be more present than ever. We spotted the slightly hippie design where you probably wouldn’t have expected it: at the Cannes Film Festival.
Hardly any other trend looks so far away, like adventure, like free spirit like the ethno pattern. No wonder, after all, the style is not based on any direct origin, but has influences from Africa, Asia and South America. The fact that we think of the distance and get into the holiday mood right away is probably in the nature of things. With its slight hippie flair and hang-loose attitude, the trend doesn’t necessarily fit where we’ve discovered it now. At the Cannes Film Festival, one of the most glamorous events in the film and celebrity industry, the stars show up in ethnic-inspired designs.

The famous fashionistas appear on the red carpet in the finest outfits and finest robes. More is more – definitely in Cannes. But all kinds of paparazzi are also waiting away from the red carpets, as the celebrity ladies know very well. And so what you wear away from the premiere events and film screenings is at least as important. In front of the Hotel Martinez, Izabel Goulart and Emilia Schüle show how summer street style can be done: both are wearing ethnic-style bottoms.

While the top model poses in front of the hotel in a swinging maxi skirt in bright colors, the actress wears wide-leg trousers, also in ethnic style. Both combine shirt blouses with their ethnic pieces. While Emilia goes for business chic here, Izabel dares to approach another style. She combines a cowboy shirt with her ethnic skirt. The mix of styles and patterns is certainly daring, but it suits the Brazilian perfectly.

Ethno in summer 2022
Whether in an all-over look or used accentuated – in summer 2022 ethno is a big trend.
Ethnic patterns are mostly geometric in earthy tones and contain bright splashes of color. A distinction is made between Ikat, Navajo or Aztec patterns. The pattern is particularly beautiful in combination with parts from the same color family, warm earth tones are ideal.
As Izabel and Emilia prove, the hard break in style also works, for example with a white business shirt. Denim also harmonizes well with ethnic pieces.
