Sungler Succession – Only three candidates for highest SALK post

There are hardly any applications to succeed Paul Sungler. Two men and one woman are still eligible. State Vice Christian Stöckl is concerned about the current development.

SALK boss Paul Sungler will retire at the end of the year. The country is therefore looking for a successor for the highest post in the state clinics. However, the search is likely to prove more difficult than expected. Because there were only ten applications for the executive chair. Of these, five were eliminated directly because they did not meet the criteria. “We want a doctor with management experience,” says health officer and state vice-president Christian Stöckl (ÖVP). The five failed applicants are therefore more likely to come from the economic sector. Ten years ago there were still 40 applications. Two other applicants are likely to lack managerial experience. The bottom line is that there are three possible candidates who are now interviewing the staffing company. After this procedure there will be hearings. Stöckl is concerned about the few interested parties. “We are finding more and more often that it is becoming difficult to fill important positions with a lot of responsibility,” says the health officer. Especially given the current situation: Because without an application from Sungler – that’s a given – all candidates have the same chance. Ten years ago it was very different. “We had around 40 applicants in the first phase,” reports Stöckl. In the future there could also be two managing directors, as is clear from the tender. Stöckl: “If my successor wants a manager for the business sector.”
