Super Bowl: This is behind Jay-Z's cancellation of the halftime show

This year's Super Bowl will take place in Miami on February 2nd. The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers meet in the National Football League (NFL) final. The legendary halftime show this year is performed by the singers Jennifer Lopez (50) and Shakira (43). A few years ago, the NFL rapper Jay-Z (50, "4:44") wanted to win, but the husband of R&B queen Beyoncé (38) declined. It was "about the principle", he explained in an interview with the "New York Times" his motives.

"I said forget it!"

According to Jay-Z, the NFL wanted a guarantee from him: he should bring his musician friends Kanye West (42) and Rihanna (31) for the performance and a medley of "Run This Town". "Of course" he would have done it, said the rapper. But his reaction: "No, you get me." According to Jay-Z, telling someone that your commitment to the halftime show depends on who you bring is not the way to do it. "I said forget it!"

However, the rapper is not resentful. Because in 2019 another deal between the NFL and its company Roc Nation came about. Roc Nation advises the professional league on the "live entertainment strategy", which also includes the half-time show of the Super Bowl.
