The first big surprise followed before the race. Sofia Goggia, the season’s dominator, who fell so badly on Saturday’s downhill in Zauchensee, was already back at the start. The 29-year-old told several TV stations: “Skiing hurts less than walking.”
Means: Despite the scary pictures, Goggia did not seem to have seriously injured himself. But was she so fit that she was able to succeed again in the Super-G? Well – not quite. At least something prevented her, as the Italian was only 19. Goggia later said: “It was important that I started today despite the pain.”

So it was Corinne Suter who caused a lot of joy among Swiss ski fans. The 27-year-old showed a fantastic drive and finished second in Zauchensee behind Federica Brignone and ahead of Ariane Rädler. In the end, Suter was only 0.04 seconds short of victory.
Afterwards she was overjoyed. “It was a good ride, although there were pressures in two or three places. The good thing was that I could let the ski run. That was extremely important,” Suter told SRF. “You should never let yourself be unsettled. There are always many people who want to help you. But you always know better yourself.”
“I dared too little”
And Lara Gut-Behrami? The 30-year-old from Ticino triumphed in the downhill on Saturday. In her speed comeback after corona disease, she won ahead of Kira Weidle and Ramona Siebenhofer. It didn’t go so well on Sunday. Gut-Behrami showed a bit of an inhibited ride, but in the end she finished 10th.
Was she thinking about her last Super G start in St. Moritz when she fell? “No,” said the 30-year-old after the race to SRF. “I didn’t dare enough. You could have driven a lot more boldly, as the other drivers showed. During inspection, the track looked much faster. I went a little too round because I thought she was faster.
