Kiriko’s leak spoiled the surprise a bit, but here is the official announcement of the new heroine, already much loved by players, of Overwatch 2. But all is not rosy and the community may see red with the news on the Battle Pass.

The surprising big leak on Kiriko, the next heroine of Overwatch, is confirmed with details. One thing is certain, the controversy over the new heroes will intensify.

Kiriko, Overwatch 2’s new ninja healer

Let’s start with the good news, Kiriko’s presentation. A healer capable of healing and temporarily making her teammates immune to damage. This very Japanese ninja will be able to move with increased mobility by climbing on walls like the heroes Genji or Hanzo, and pass through ramparts via teleportation to return to his partners. She can throw kunais or summon the spirit of a fox which improves the speed of movement, attack and reduces the cooldowns of her comrades.

For Overwatch veterans, it will be available for free when the sequel launches.

A heroine at the heart of the controversy over new heroes

Despite being released under a free-to-play model, Overwatch 2 will have a premium Battle Pass with paid heroes. If Blizzard wanted to be reassuring, there is reason to worry. Yes, Kiriko will be free for new players… but not without leaving hours and hours of play.

Indeed, the young woman can only be obtained at level 55, which requires dozens and dozens of hours. Inevitably, the discontent is still rising. Because in summary, either you are a veteran of the franchise and therefore no problem, or you are forced to pay to avoid this grind.

Season 1 content detailed

For its season 1, Overwatch 2 will receive a total of three characters. Kiriko, Sojourn and Junker Queen. Fortunately, these last two will be unlockable without any conditions that would involve money or grind. There will also be cosmetic items, outfits, six new maps, PvP Push mode and a limited event Junkenstein’s Revenge: The Bride’s Wrath from October 25 to November 8, 2022.

The Battle Pass will be split into two categories with completely free rewards on the one hand, and paid ones on the other.
