With the announcement of its fiscal first half results, Nintendo shared the performance of Super Mario Bros. Wonderits latest big title on Nintendo Switch.

WonderNintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke about his hybrid console: “The Switch will enter its eighth year starting in March 2024, but we will continue to develop new titles without being bound by the life cycles of previous platforms”.

This promises a few more years of big Nintendo video games on the Switch, like Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD or Super Princes Peach.

A Switch 2 dependent on Nintendo game sales

The arrival of the Switch 2 should therefore not annihilate the first generation, and everything suggests that 2024 will be the chosen year, alongside the gradual decline in sales of Nintendo’s hybrid console.

According to Atul Goyal, analyst at Jefferies, the launch of this successor will depend on “Nintendo’s hardware and software sales strength”, relays Reuters. The latter evokes a launch window for March (thus imitating the first Switch) or October (perfect for the end-of-year holidays).
