Super Mario Maker’s impossible level was completed by a Frenchman

There was still one level left to complete in the video game Super Mario Makeravailable on Wii U. Deemed impossible, because it was built out of place, it was finally completed by a member of Team 0%, the French player Sanyx91SMM2.

A few years ago, a team of enthusiasts of Super Mario Maker embarked on an incredible mission: to complete the 80,000 levels of the game. A tedious task, the difficulty of which was accentuated by a deadline: the closure of the servers on the Wii U, on April 8, 2024. However, the feat was made a few days before the fateful date.

However, there remained one final achievement to truly reach 100% completion (or 101%, given the particular nature of the “last” challenge): complete a level declared illegitimate according to the rules of Super Mario Maker. A level deemed impossible, quite simply because its creator cheated to integrate it into Super Mario Maker. In this game, we can indeed offer Mario levels to the community, provided that we can complete them. The creator of the “impossible level” used software to circumvent the rules.

Super Mario Maker was 101% complete before the servers were shut down

The story of this hellish level, called “Trimming the Herbs”, is summarized in this video published on YouTube on April 6. Where we can see the member of Team 0% see the end of it, after a little over 13 seconds. Although it was not necessary to complete it to accomplish the mission that Team 0% set for itself, some people still wanted to push their limits before April 8, without certainty of succeeding — on the level page, we can see that it compiles more than 380,000 attempts!

It turns out it was a Frenchman who managed to finish “Trimming the Herbs”. On his YouTube channel, he presents himself as a passionate about Super Mario Maker, fan of difficult levels. With “Trimming the Herbs,” you could say it was served. In fact, we can hear him gasping for air, repeating “Oh my God! » at the end of his successful attempt — as if he had survived a marathon.

It’s probably the best experience I’ve had in my entire life, it was super cool to see the hype, but it’s also sad that it’s the end », he describes. To complete this challenge, he estimates he needed 140 hours — it’s almost the equivalent of the duration of certain very extensive games, like The Witcher 3 Or Baldur’s Gate III.

A relentlessness which is neither the longest (second), nor the most difficult (third), according to his words. He thinks there are harder levels. “ I didn’t find any good way to train, which was a real disadvantage, especially for the climbhe says. Then, on April 5, I found something! It helped me and I was able to succeed. »

Thanks to him, the Team 0% site displays “101% clear”. The epilogue of a formidable epic.
