The Smash community is slowly preparing to follow its big meeting in March: the Smash Ultimate Summit 4. Before this clash between the best players in the world begins, another battle has started on Twitter.
What is the Summit?
The Summit is a huge invitational tournament, bringing together the cream of the elite on SSBU. The event first started on DOTA 2, then opened in Melee in 2015 before being declined on Ultimate. For three days the top players do various activities related to the game, before concluding with a double elimination tournament. There are three ways to access it: to be directly invited, to qualify via a partner tournament (this year this tournament was the Mainstage 2021) or to be sent there via a community vote. All players are not eligible to apply via this vote, this must still have recently proven its value on the competitive scene. This year, you must have met one of the following conditions:
- Be in the top 100 players of OrionRank 2020
- Top 150 – Orion Rank Eclipse
- Top 50 – OrionRank Eclipse Japan or Europe
- Have made at least a top 64 at one of these tournaments: Riptide, Super Smash Con Fall Fest, Low Tide City 2021, Port Priority 6, Mainstage 2021, CEO 2021, Let’s Make Big Moves 2022
- Have finished in the top 40 at the Smash World Tour Championship
- Have made top 16 at the Smash World Tour Regional Finals in one of these regions: South America, Central America, Europe, NA West, NA East, East Asia, Oceania
- Have already participated in a Smash Summit
For the moment the players already announced are: ProtoBanham, Light, Dabuz, Glutonny (all 4 are automatically invited), MkLeo, Sparg0, Elegant, Tea, Tweet and Chag (qualified via the Mainstage 2021).
Who is Raflow?
For those who follow the Ultimate competitive scene from afar, the pseudonym of Raflow may not be well known yet. The young French player has distinguished himself for several months in national tournaments, having notably won the Wanted Predat8rs without losing a single game. He made a top 16 at the European regional finals of the Smash World Tour, a top 8 at the Temple (international tournament with big names on the scene who had made the trip) and is the first European player to have released Glutonny during a tournament. In terms of his official rankings, he is currently the seventh European and the second best French player, just behind the star of Solary.
For the moment the votes are not yet officially open, they will be from February 10, 2022. It should also be noted that Raflow is not the only eligible Frenchman, NaetorU is also one of them, even if his recent results are worse than those of the BMS player.
