DeepL’s free plan loses character…
If, until now, you had never heard of DeepL, know that it is an excellent online translation tool launched in 2017. In the space of 5 years, the service has above all, has been acclaimed by users for its ability to decrypt and translate nearly thirty languages (French, Chinese, German, English, etc.) in a much more precise way than some of its competitors (someone said Reverso?). On the strength of its success, DeepL was then declined in mobile and desktop applications.
Like any good self-respecting software, DeepL offers two formulas (beware, suspense): one free and another paid. Concerning the first, it previously made it possible to translate up to 5,000 characters simultaneously. Unfortunately, the platform has decided to revise its free offer downwards by now limiting the number of characters to 3,000.
… while the Pro version asserts itself
If you are used to using the browser version, this new character limit is not very dramatic in itself. All you have to do is open DeepL in a new tab, and voila! That’s it. On the other hand, for those who use the other versions, you will have to get used to this restriction. Regarding customers of the Pro version, be aware that it will undergo a price increase and go from 5.99 to 7.49 euros per month.
At this time, it appears that the character limit change is not yet applied depending on the country you are in and/or the web browser you are using. Either way, there’s no doubt that it’s only a matter of time before it becomes mainstream. The price increase will not have waited, since the new price is already applied…
