Supergirl has perhaps finally found its director! While the film already has its main actress in the person of Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon), the webzine Deadline reports that DC Studios (a subsidiary of Warner Bros.) is in full negotiations with Craig Gillespie for the latter to take control.

After Me, Tonya And Cruella

After starring Margot Robbie in Me, Tonya and Emma Stone in Cruella, the Australian director could therefore well direct Milly Alcock in the guise of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Accustomed to projects featuring heroines, the director should feel like a fish in water at the helm of this film.

However, it is not in this film that Milly Alcock will make her very first appearance in the DC Universe (DCU), as it has been announced that she will also be appearing in another DC project. Probably in the Superman by James Gunn, although nothing has been confirmed.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will offer a version of the Kryptonian heroine different from what we have previously seen on screen, whether in the 1984 feature film or in the 2015 series. The film is based on the eponymous comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, released in 2021, and adapted by Ana Nogueira (actress in Vampire Diaries).

The film will show how Kara’s life is the polar opposite of that of her cousin, Kal-El. If Superman was raised on Earth in a loving family, Supergirl grew up on a piece of Krypton adrift in space, and saw her entire family tragically perish. The filming of this Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled for fall 2024.

While waiting to know if Gillespie will indeed occupy the director’s chair on this film, know that Superman And Supergirl are not the only DCU feature films on the schedule for James Gunn and Peter Safran, the bosses of DC Studios.

They also have a Batman film based on the comic in their bag The Brave and the Bolda movie Swamp Thing and series like Lanterns And Creature Commandos. More information on our dedicated article.
