Expected in our theaters on July 9, 2025, James Gunn’s “Superman Legacy” has finally started filming. For the occasion, the director gives a glimpse of the DC hero’s costume… and reveals the new title of the film.
The future of DC in cinema begins… today! Or rather this Thursday, February 29, the symbolic day chosen by James Gunn to sound the first clap on the set of Superman Legacy, the first feature film of the future DC Universe… which will have another title.
“When I finished writing the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. But by the time I finished the final version, it was clear to me that the title would be SUPERMAN“says the director in an Instagram post where he reveals a preview of the costume that David Corenswet will wear, and the logo on his torso.
There will also be snow, obviously, if we rely on this photo, which perhaps indicates that the famous Fortress of Solitude of Clark Kent/Superman will be there, given that it is generally located in an area polar.
And it would not be surprising since the film expected on July 9, 2025 will not be an origin story, and will show a superhero already installed (in Metropolis in particular), confronted with the balance between his powers and his humanity. Who could make him want solitude.
Lex Luthor the zero ball
While waiting to see more, James Gunn involuntarily chose Superman’s birthday to start filming his film, which makes this first day a little more symbolic. And its three actors also did not fail to announce the start of the festivities.
Note that Nicholas Hoult shaved his head to play Lex Luthor (which will bring back memories of Mad Max: Fury Road). That David Corenswet hides (voluntarily?) his Superman haircut under a hat. And that Lois Lane’s hairstyle will undoubtedly be very close to that of Rachel Brosnahan in these images.
For the rest, we will have to wait for other photos, which James Gunn could post on social networks, where he is very active (and in order to anticipate leaks). Then a trailer and finally the release of this Superman, period, in a little over a year.
