- Superman: Legacy marks the beginning of a new era for the Man of Steel Superman.
- The film is currently in production and is scheduled to be released in cinemas in 2025.
- Now Gun has announced that the film will no longer be called Superman: Legacy.
With “Superman: Legacy,” director James Gunn ushers in a new era for the famous DC hero. The film is the result of the restructuring of the DC Universe following the takeover of DC Studios by Gunn and colleague Peter Safran and is intended to tell the backstory of Clark Kent aka Superman. Now James Gun has announced that “Superman: Legacy” will no longer have the suffix “Legacy” and will simply be called “Superman”.
When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. When I finished the final draft, it was clear that the title would be SUPERMAN.

Superman: Plot
“Superman” tells the backstory of the Man of Steel. Above all, Superman’s time as a young reporter at the newspaper “The Daily Planet” is said to play an important role. Here Clark Kent meets his future wife Lois. This puts him in a difficult position as he tries to reconcile his human life and his origins from the planet Krypton.
The film focuses on how Superman balances his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.
Peter Safran
Superman: Cast
For “Superman,” longtime Superman actor Henry Cavill was replaced. The story takes place several years before the events of “Man of Steel”, which is why a younger actor is supposed to play the hero.
The new Man of Steel, Clark Kent, is played by David Corenswet (“The Politician”). His great love and future wife, Lois Lane, is portrayed by “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan.
Also there are Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”) as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion (“The Rookie”) as Guy Gardner, Sara Sampaio (“At Midnight”) as Eve Teschmacher, Nicholas Hoult (“The Great”) as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo (“The Righteous Gemstones”) as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan (“Barry”) as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi (“For All Mankind”) as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría (“Yo Soy Franky”) as Angela Spica/The Engineer and Terence Rosemore (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”) as Otis, as James Gun revealed in an Instagram post.
Superman: Production
The screenplay for “Superman” comes from James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”). He will also direct. Gunn receives production support from producer Peter Safran (“Shazam! Fury of the Gods”).
The film was originally announced under the title “Superman: Legacy” until it was renamed “Superman” in February 2024.
Superman: Trailer
There is no trailer for “Superman” yet. As soon as something changes, you will find out here.
Superman gets a makeover
Even before “Superman” was officially announced, the film was already causing a stir. Long-time Superman actor Henry Cavill was replaced as the hero after he left the Netflix series “The Witcher” specifically for a new hero film. But the makeover with a new actor will do “Superman” good. The film ushers in a new era of DC heroes and a fresh cast is just the thing.
