As the auditions continue, everyone is asking the same question: who will be the next Superman and Lois Lane? Here are the names of the potential finalists…
With Guardians of the Galaxy 3 conquering the box office, James Gunn can now turn his attention to his next big project, the highly anticipated Superman: Legacy. While the auditions are currently taking place, many are those who have sent in their tapes to try their luck. The three main roles – Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor – are in particular to be filled and some names are starting to be revealed…
According to Deadline, it looks like Nicholas Hoult, (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men, Renfield), David Corenswet (Hollywood, The Politician), Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, The Kissing Booth) and Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy ) are among the finalists for the role of Superman.

For that of Lois Lane, Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Eiffel), Rachel Brosnahan (The Fabulous Mrs. Maisel), Phoebe Dynevor (The Bridgerton Chronicle) and Samara Weaving (Wedding Nightmare) would have stood out. The last test was submitted on May 4 and James Gunn’s plan would now be to watch every video tape. While a final decision isn’t expected anytime soon, we should find out in the coming months who will land these coveted roles.

As for Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor, no names seem to be circulating at this time. Rumor has it, however, that James Gunn has consulted with some actors he has worked with in the past. Additionally, some sources are talking about auditioning for a role labeled “Apex.” As a reminder, Apex Lex Luthor is a version of the villain who has the strength to fight Superman and which would imply the establishment of a potential multiverse, Apex Lex having been in contact with other Luthors in different dimensions…
SHOOTING DATE REVEALED
According to the film’s official synopsis, Superman: Legacy will focus on Superman’s quest to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville. Currently in pre-production, the shooting of the film will begin in January 2024 for a planned release around July 2025.
The first phase of the DC Universe, called “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”, will be explored through a multitude of films and series. Among the projects announced, we can mention three feature films: The Brave and the Bold centered on Batman and Robin, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow which will feature Superman’s cousin, and a Swamp Thing film. All should be released around 2026.
