- In the supplementary game of the 1st round of the Super League, Lucerne and GC split 1:1.
- Marco Burch (32nd) and Renat Dadashov (38th) were responsible for the goals.
- As a result, GC missed the leap to the top of the table, but, like FC Luzern, remained unbeaten this season.
Up until the 38th minute of the Grasshoppers’ game, there was no indication that a win in Lucerne could take them to the top of the table. FC Luzern dominated the game, had significantly more possession and, thanks to a Marco Burch header, had a deserved lead from the 32nd minute. But then the guests showed their greatest strength of the season: the exploitation of chances.
A swift attack landed on Renat Dadashov via Hayao Kawabe. The striker turned on his own axis and gave FCL keeper Marius Müller no chance to defend himself with a solid finish. The Grasshoppers equalized with the first chance to score. A carelessness on the defensive of the central Swiss was enough to give up the hard-earned lead.
Dorn awards the “Lucky Punch”
In the second half, the two teams then showed a balanced game. Only in the final phase did the hosts press harder for victory again. Pius Dorn missed his best chance in the 82nd minute when he hit the post with a header and then forced André Moreira to make an amazing save from close range. This opportunity brought new momentum to the FCL storm, but the winning goal never came.
Ex-Lucerne Tsiy Ndenge had just come to the best GC chance in the second round. In the 80th minute he stood with a determined look at the free kick, circled the ball on goal, but then found his master in Müller. After his brace against St. Gallen, the midfielder remained goalless this time and also showed a rather unremarkable game.
Lucerne was the better team
GC will be happier with the result than Lucerne. The central Swiss were closer to victory, had more shots (15:8) and corners (11:5) than their opponents. Once again this season, however, the strong conversion of chances saved GC a point.
