While waiting for Apple to allow it, an iOS application is benefiting from an update to support RCS messages. It is the first to offer this functionality on iPhone.
SMS is so 2020 (and we’re nice). Google pushed for its complete replacement a few years ago by introducing the RCS, or Rich Communication System. Relying on the data network and no longer over the cellular network like its predecessor, the system approximates the instant chat messengers from which he borrows a lot. End-to-end encryption, real-time input indicator, read and receive acknowledgment… A kind of “super SMS” that Android quickly adopted, especially with Google Messages.
For its part, Apple is resisting with its iMessages, despite an injunction from Europe for the brand to adopt the RCS. In terms of functionality, the apple system allows the same things, but without compatibility with Android devices. An application seeks to correct the situation while waiting for the iPhone to natively support the RCS: Beeper. Its primary purpose and bring together all your mobile messaging on a single interface.

First, of course, you need to download and install the application. Currently, it brings together around fifteen messaging services, including those of social networks such as X (Twitter) Or Facebook Messenger. Support for RCS and Google Messages is still in beta. To activate it, touch the gear icon, go to Chat Networks Then Google Messages. Everything is not yet perfect. Send and receive emojis is done without worry, but the profile pictures are not displayed for example, nor is the real-time input indicator.
The various bugs are known and the teams are already working on their resolution to offer a full support of the made in Google messaging standard. Note that Beeper registers newcomers on a waiting list more or less provided. You may not have immediate access to the application if you have never applied for the service. Be patient, it may take a while.
