Almost all of us surf the web every day, but browsers can do more than many users realize. Users should know these tricks for Firefox.

Millions of people use Mozilla’s Firefox browser every day, but many users don’t know the most important tricks. From accidentally closing windows and tabs to sharing pages without having to send links or syncing your user profile, Firefox users have this know-how to make life easier.

A profile is worth it

Regardless of the browser provider, once you have decided between Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Chrome or Opera, the browsers offer practical synchronization functions. In addition to shared bookmarks, this includes the option of sending tabs. If you are surfing the net and want to use an open tab on another device, you don’t have to laboriously send yourself a link. Instead, open tabs can be sent directly to other devices. To do this, right-click (PC) or two-finger click (Mac) on the relevant tab to open the tab option and select “Send tab to device”. Another click on the target device is enough to open the content there as if by magic.

The needle in the pile of tabs

Just look something up? Often enough, this project ends in a long chain of further clicks and new tabs. Before you know it, dozens of tabs are open. In order not to lose track in such a case, there is a trick: open another tab and type a “%” in the address bar. Firefox will then list the currently open tabs. Add a search term to the “%” and the list of suggestions should be so short that users are sure to find their destination.

Restore tabs and windows

Accidentally closed an important tab? This can quickly lead to a moment of shock. Rescue is only a key combination away on the keyboard: After closing the tab, simply press “Ctrl+Shift+T” (PC) “Command+Shift+T” (Mac) and the tab will open again. This works not only with one, but with several tabs, in which the user executes the command several times in a row. Users proceed according to the same principle when windows are accidentally closed; the command for this is “Ctrl+Shift+N”.

Restore a session

Almost everyone has probably found themselves in the situation where, due to a PC restart, not just a single tab but the entire Firefox session has been lost. But this problem is also quickly solved: Simply navigate to the chronicle using the menu button, where Firefox offers the option “Restore previous session”.

color picker

A tip for creative users: If you see a specific color tone and don’t want to determine it roughly, you can use the color pipette to help. It is hidden behind the menu button and under the “Additional tools” tab. After clicking on “Color pipette” a magnifying glass opens, which makes the color of each individual pixel visible. After clicking on the corresponding pixel, Firefox copies the hexadecimal color code to the clipboard and closes the pipette again.
