After Ferrero has already recalled some products in Germany as a precaution, the list is now expanding again. Here you can find out which children’s sweets are affected.
The salmonella cases in several European countries, which are probably related to chocolate products, are now also occupying two EU authorities. The EU food safety authority EFSA and the EU health authority ECDC have started investigations into the outbreak and want to publish an assessment in the coming week.
Due to salmonella cases in several countries, confectionery manufacturer Ferrero has had to stop production at a factory in Belgium for the time being. The supervisory authority Afsca announced on Friday that it would revoke the production license for the Arlon plant. All products from the factory must therefore be recalled.
But that’s not all. Ferrero admitted on Thursday that salmonella had already been detected on December 15, 2021. The group is also recalling products again.
So far, 105 confirmed cases and 29 suspected cases have emerged, most of them in children under the age of ten, the authorities said on Wednesday.

In Germany, four confirmed and three suspected cases are known. Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden are also affected. According to the health authorities in Paris, there was also a recall in France.

Salmonella at Ferrero: Recall now also in the USA
Ferrero has now recalled products from its “Kids” line of confectionery in the United States. Because the products “Happy Moments Chocolate Assortment” and “Mix Chocolate Treats Basket” could be contaminated with salmonella and therefore pose a possible health risk, Ferrero is voluntarily withdrawing the goods from the market, according to a company announcement that the US food authority FDA said on Thursday (local time) published.
The two products were manufactured in a factory where a salmonella infection had been detected. It is a precautionary measure after consumers of products from the same factory became infected with salmonella in Europe, it said. Cases of illness in the USA have not yet been reported. Products already purchased should not be eaten and customer service should be contacted for a refund.
