Surprising: We make these 3 mistakes with bananas!

Bananas are among the most popular fruits among Germans. Rightly so: they not only taste good and keep you full for a long time, they are also particularly healthy! In addition to potassium, which supports heart health, bananas also contain vitamin B6, which in turn strengthens the immune system. But although bananas are so popular, Many of us make several mistakes when dealing with exotic fruits.

What we do wrong with bananas

1. Incorrectly stored

If you store your bananas in the fridge, you should quickly get them out of there. Because bananas are real sun and heat worshipers, They can go bad prematurely in the cold refrigerator. They last the longest if they are stored at room temperature – as far away from other fruit as possible. Ripe bananas release a lot of ethylene – the ripening gas ensures that fruit spoils faster.

2. Peeled incorrectly

Are you also annoyed by the thin threads that stick to it when you peel a banana? Or have you ever accidentally crushed the pulp while doing so, because the banana was still very fresh and the stalk correspondingly hard? It is precisely for these reasons that we should do not peel the banana down from the stem, but rather do it the other way around like the monkeys. The surface is hard here too, but less firm than the stem. When peeling, monkeys take the end of the banana between their thumb and index finger and simply pull it apart – this is not only easier than peeling from the stem, it also saves us the annoying threads.

3. Do not wash hands after peeling

Pesticide residues are found more frequently on banana peels. The reason: To keep them fresh during long transport, bananas are also treated after harvesting, for example with anti-mold agents. The crop protection products remain on the skin and do not penetrate the pulp, but we should still go for them wash hands after peeling a banana. We best give the peeled tropical fruit to children.
