Should there be a referendum on migration policy? A few weeks before the European elections, this is in any case what a majority of French people want, according to our CSA survey for Europe 1, CNews and The Sunday Journal*. 69% of respondents are in favor, and 31% against. A stable result compared to May 2023, when the same question was asked to a panel.
A majority idea according to age groups…
Whether it is gender, socio-professional category or even age group, all segments are mainly in favor of the implementation of this referendum. 18-24 year olds are the least inclined, with 54% of favorable opinion, whileConversely seniors are the most favorable. Those aged 50 and over are 72% in favor, and those aged 65 and over are 73%. As for socio-professional categories, 62% of CSP+ want this measure, 74% for CSP-, and 70% for the inactive.
… but also according to political opinions
In terms of political opinions, the desire to see a referendum on migration policy is also legion. On the left, the idea appeals to 56% of supporters. Only PS voters are against at 51%. For all other sensitivities, France insoumise and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts included, the results are respectively 53% and 52% in favor. But it is on the right that we find the most supporters of this measure.
87% of supporters are in favor of a referendum on the country’s migration policy. A figure that we find among the National Rally, and which peaks at 92% among Republican voters.
