SURVEY – 73% of French people approve of the abolition of land rights in Mayotte

A deletion announced and approved by a large majority. Traveling on Sunday to Mayotte, paralyzed by blockages for three weeks, Gérald Darmanin announced the upcoming abolition of land law in the 101st tricolor department. A decision widely approved by 73% of French people, according to a CSA survey for Europe 1, CNews and “Le Journal du Dimanche”*.

90% of right-wing voters are for

In detail, those aged 65 and over are the most favorable to the measure, with 81% in favor, while only 58% of those aged 25-34 think that it is a good thing. But it is especially when we look at political opinions that the differences are visible. Left-wing voters are thus very divided on the question: 50% are for, 49% against, and 1% does not comment. A majority of supporters of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts are even against the abolition of land rights, i.e. 47% against 53%.

On the right, however, the question is much less debated: 90% of supporters are for, and only 10% are against. National Rally voters are 91% in favor, while among Les Républicains, the favorable opinion climbs to 94%.

65% of French people in favor of the abolition of land rights across the entire territory

But behind the question of Mayotte lies that of the suppression of the right to the entire territory. A hypothesis which, certainly, divides respondents more, but which still remains largely in the majority with 65% of favorable opinion. As with the Mahorais question, those over 65 are the most likely to be in favor of this measure (71%), and those aged 25-34 are divided (51% in favor). We must therefore once again see the panel in the light of political opinions to detect a divide.

On the left, voters are largely against it with 63% against. A percentage which climbs to 67% among Europe Ecologie-Les Verts voters. And once again, right-wing sympathizers pose a mirror image, with 89% of those surveyed in favor of its removal, 10% against and 1% who have no opinion. A general opinion on the right which corresponds almost perfectly to Republican voters, who are 90% in favor and 10% against. As for supporters of the National Rally, 93% are for it, and 7% are against it.
