Survivor R ordered: Rheinmetall upgrades federal police

Survivor R ordered
Rheinmetall is upgrading the federal police

The federal government orders 55 more armored police vehicles from the armaments company Rheinmetall. For the group, this means income in the double-digit million range. But options can still increase the volume significantly.

The armaments company Rheinmetall has received an order from the Federal Ministry of the Interior for 55 special armored vehicles of the Survivor R model for the federal and riot police. The Düsseldorf-based group announced that the order value was in the high double-digit million euro range. Follow-up orders are also possible. The total order volume could increase into the three-digit million range through agreed options for additional vehicles. For Rheinmetall, the order means the expansion of the public safety division.

According to the information, the Survivor R will be the new “Sonderwagen 5”. It replaces the special wagon 4 introduced 35 years ago and will in future be run as special wagon 5. In the first step, two sample vehicles would be delivered this year.

According to Rheinmetall, the Survivor R is based on a truck chassis from MAN. The vehicles are powered by a 340 hp engine. The armored vehicle comes as standard with a ventilation system against nuclear, biological and chemical warfare agents. The interior can accommodate up to eleven people.

The vehicles came into the limelight of the general public three years ago when it became known that seat covers in vehicles had the Saxon SEK logo with aesthetic proximity to the Nazi symbolism. These were removed again. It showed – winged and surrounded by a laurel wreath – a crowned Saxon coat of arms held by two lions. Above and below are the words “Special Operations Command” and “Saxony” in broken script reminiscent of Fraktur. Fraktur was the widespread printed script for centuries and was still widely used as the so-called German script at the beginning of the Nazi era.
