Susanne Böhm: She speaks for the first time about the death of Werner Böhm

Susanne Böhm mourns the death of her late husband Werner Böhm. They reconciled before he died, she says in an interview.

Pop singer Werner Böhm (1941-2020), known as Gottlieb Wendehals ("Polonäse Blankenese"), died in early June at the age of 78. His third wife Susanne Böhm (50), with whom they have a son, broke up in January 2019 after 30 years in a relationship, 24 of them as a couple. The two fought a public war of roses. But before his death they buried the hatchet. "We had reconciled. And that gives me inner peace today," says Susanne Böhm in an interview with the magazine "Gala".

"From death to dream – that is not granted to many"

"Because of Werner's death, I have deep sadness in me (…)," said the 50-year-old. "The worst" was for her to deliver the death notice to their son. Jerome "didn't understand it at the moment. No tears fell, he was so caught. It takes a long time for a child's soul to understand and process this," recalls his mother. Father and son "never had such intimate contact". "Werner was never a classic father figure," says Susanne Böhm. Nevertheless, she often talks to her son about his late father.

The 50-year-old finds comfort in the fact that "he fell asleep so peacefully. From death to dream – that is not granted to many". He had feelings for her until the end. On May 11, her wedding day, which would have been 25 years, he sent her flowers. "In our last phone calls, he kept saying that he still loves me," recalls Susanne Böhm. "I will always have Werner in my heart. We were together for 30 years – that's half a life."

So far there has been no funeral. "We want a burial at sea, but in Germany (…) Werner loved the water and Hamburg," she says. The urn will soon be transferred to Germany. The farewell should take place "in the smallest circle". His second wife, Mary Roos (71), will be there, for example. There was and is no inheritance dispute, Susanne Böhm clarifies: "There is a clear will. And only the family is considered in it."

Susanne Böhm is now in a relationship with the cook Heiko Stock (51), who runs his own restaurant. She raves about the new man by her side. He carries them on hands and supports them "in everything I do". She doesn't rule out another wedding.
