- After a boat belonging to suspected people smugglers capsized off the coast of the US state of Florida, emergency services are looking for 39 missing people.
- The US Coast Guard says it was alerted yesterday after a survivor was recovered.
- According to him, the boat started on Saturday night on the Bimini archipelago in the Bahamas and then got caught in a storm.
“According to the survivor, no one was wearing a life jacket,” the Coast Guard said. The emergency services are looking for possible survivors with ships and from the air. A US Coast Guard spokesman said the crossing was suspected to be human smuggling.
The Bahamas are known as a stopover point for gangs of people smugglers who want to bring refugees and migrants to the United States.
