“I am deeply ashamed,” says the so far innocent defendant in the Salzburg Regional Court and asks for a second chance. He immediately and comprehensively admits the allegation of commercial theft. Therefore, the court is lenient: nine months probation.
The accused from Salzburg worked as a division manager of a GmbH and thus head of four restaurants. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he used himself unnoticed in the coffers of the bars for years: he put 180,000 euros in his pockets out of financial difficulties – over a period of three and a half years, i.e. between December 2017 and July 2020. That is why the 53-year-old had to go now answer for commercial theft in the regional court. He made a comprehensive confession to the judge, regretted his behavior and credibly showed remorse: “I am deeply ashamed.”
Due to the remorseful confession, his previous innocence and a partial repayment of the damage, the court showed indulgence and gave the Salzburg man a second chance. In accordance with the indictment, she ultimately suspended nine months’ imprisonment. The 53-year-old accepted the verdict immediately, and the public prosecutor’s office also waived an appeal. It is therefore already legally binding.
