The world athletics association World Athletics (WA) has lifted the ban against Russia after 7 years and 4 months because of state-sponsored doping. Transgender people will be banned from women’s track and field competitions from March 31. This was also announced by Sebastian Coe on Thursday.

Blocked because of the war

Because of the war against Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian track and field athletes remain excluded from international competitions, as announced by WA President Sebastian Coe. “Russia and Belarus will remain excluded from competitions for the foreseeable future due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said the Briton.

Russia’s track and field athletes have been banned internationally since November 2015 because of the doping scandal, but World Athletics has granted individual athletes the status of neutral athletes under certain conditions. This trial was suspended because of the attack on Ukraine.
