Train and road traffic in Winterthur were temporarily restricted on Friday evening because of a suspicious object.
The police were on duty around Grüze station for a good three hours.
There were delays and cancellations in rail traffic from Winterthur.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m., a suspicious object was reported to the police at the Winterthur-Grüze train station, according to a statement from the Winterthur city police on Friday evening. For safety reasons, the train station and the surrounding area were evacuated shortly thereafter, and the area was cordoned off over a large area.
According to the SBB, rail traffic at Grüze station in Winterthur came to a complete standstill at times. According to the police, specialists from the Zurich Forensic Institute secured the suspicious object and took it with them for more detailed examination. The police did not want to say what the object was to the Keystone-SDA news agency.
St. Gallerstrasse and Talackerstrasse in Winterthur remained closed until 9:30 p.m., and rail operations at Grüze station were also restricted up to this point.
An SBB spokesman confirmed to the Keystone-SDA news agency longer-lasting restrictions on long-distance rail traffic from Winterthur towards Wil and St. Gallen and restrictions on regional traffic from Winterthur towards Tösstal.
