Sustainability in the kitchen: 8 tips to get you started

Let's be honest: we all like to look into someone else's cupboards. Especially if they belong to Green Fluencers. This time: the kitchen slide from @heylilahey.

Coffee lover

One confession in advance: I don't always buy my coffee unpackaged, but I make an effort. With the Metal coffee filters (without bag (!), e.g. from Hario, approx. 40 euros) and the Espresso pot (e.g. from Kela, about 13 euros) but I get along without waste.

Planning helps

Perfect for traveling, just think about it: Bamboo cutlery (e.g. from Bambaw, approx. 13 euros) and Glass straws (from HALM, 6 pieces, 20 euros). They're light, and all I need to wash up is soap and water.

Guilty Pleasure

Yes, I admit it: Parchment paper is very convenient, unfortunately. After all, I use it several times to save rubbish. I'm still skeptical about silicone baking mats. But be careful: I want new ones soon Glass baking trays test (e.g. Trendglas Jena, approx. 40 euros). Crazy thing!

In one wash

Love my wooden dish brush! It has lasted longer than my last plastic one and can handle the worst pans. Is the brush through you just change your head (e.g. dm, approx. 1 euro). Washable cotton sponges take care of the rest (e.g. Etsy, about 6 euros). I fill up the sink in the unpackaged store.

Wipe away

My Zewa replacement: I cut handy rags out of kitchen towels, which are easy to wash. There is also sewn on the roll (e.g. Sylt sewing culture, 28 euros).

Bag scheme

The classic, Buying fruits and vegetables online, know many (e.g. Greenderella, approx. 7 euros). I also shop for bread in the Linen pouch (e.g. EcoBugbags, from 24 euros). Ultimate tip from friends: Store the biscuits including the bag in the oven – should keep them crispy and protect against mold. Seriously! But don't forget there …

Cling film? Are you serious?

My personal highlight are washable drapes with elastic band, in several sizes for pots and bowls (e.g. SpazaStore, approx. 7 euros). I even put them over pans! Measure the size beforehand – or just sew it yourself. For the very pragmatic: place a plate over the bowl and you're done.

Crystal clear

In berlin are Unpackaged stores (Luxury!) In which I can fill glasses with pasta, lentils or nuts. It actually keeps fresher longer and also looks stylish (glass, e.g. Ball Mason, from 5 euros). Important: Spices and coffee beans like it dark, so store them in a brown glass or cupboard.
