Suzuki Swift: it changes everything, but without it being visible

Suzuki presents a brand new generation of its Swift city car. It maintains a style and proportions close to the previous model. The grille is enlarged and the headlights offer a more modern design, while the rear door handles, previously hidden in the extension of the windows, move down to a more traditional location.

The Swift remains longer than the minicity cars (segment A), but shorter than the versatile city cars (segment B), with a length of 3860 mm, which only gains 15 mm. The width, height and even the wheelbase are unchanged compared to the previous version.

To find real new features, you have to look at the interior of the Swift. The new generation dashboard is intended to be more original, even if it means appearing a little tortured. Although not modern, the Swift remains simple in terms of ergonomics, with numerous physical controls, notably for adjusting the ventilation.

In addition, Suzuki has upgraded its Swift with modern equipment, such as compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in wireless versions and numerous driving aids, some of which are imposed by new European regulations.

A single mild hybrid engine

While the ecological penalty scale will no longer spare any non-hybrid petrol car in 2024, Suzuki remains faithful to its 12 V mild hybridization. The Swift is still equipped with a 1.2 l SHVS naturally aspirated petrol engine, but it It is now a three-cylinder and no longer a four-cylinder. It develops 82 hp and 110 Nm of torque.

Certainly, this is the lowest level of hybridization, but Suzuki is used to producing particularly light cars (less than 1 t for the old generation). We can therefore hope that the new Swift will escape the penalty in 2024, at least in the two-wheel drive (traction) version. Because yes, it also remains available with Allgrip Auto all-wheel drive. For the moment, no automatic gearbox has been announced, but a CVT transmission could strengthen the range, as was the case for the previous generation.

We do not yet know the price of this new Swift. The old generation, which is only available from stock, starts at €17,590. Let’s hope that Suzuki will manage to maintain an accessible price for its Swift, while its rivals continue to increase their prices.
