Sweating with a view: In these German saunas you will not only get hot

A sunset at the lake, a panorama of the dunes or the sea right in front of your eyes – when your gaze and thoughts wander, the sauna session is twice as relaxing. FOCUS Online presents six saunas that promise wellness with a vision.

Winter is here – and with it cold and darkness. What are we still looking forward to? That the sauna season starts again. Because saunas help us to deeply relax with their warmth, their light and the smells of essential oils. When your gaze wanders into the distance and your thoughts come to rest, your vacation from the cold season begins. We present Germany's most beautiful saunas with an extraordinary view.

"Beach sauna Hörnum", Sylt

Two saunas, hidden in the dunes, the refreshing North Sea to cool off – that is the "Strandsauna Hörnum". The first beach sauna on Sylt opened 40 years ago on the west beach of the nature reserve. Back then it was just a Finnish log cabin hidden in the middle of the sand dunes. In 2009 it was extensively renovated, resulting in an original 90 degree sauna and a bio sauna.

After the sauna, there is a short path straight to the nudist beach. Sun loungers and beach chairs provide relaxation in the midst of the surrounding natural backdrop of dunes, sand and sea. The "Hörnum Beach Sauna" is an insider tip.

"Dünen-Therme", St. Peter Ording

During the sauna session, let your gaze wander through the panorama window over the salt marshes, the sea and the beach in the “Dünen-Therme”. The thermal baths in St. Peter Ording are very close to the lake and offer a large wellness area.

A very special mood arises when you sweat during sunset. Pure nature – whether in the dune garden with beach chairs and a sea waterfall or in the sea water basin.

"Fontane Therme", Neuruppin

You can sweat in the largest floating lake sauna in Germany in Brandenburg. The "Fontane Therme" is located on the banks of the Ruppiner See. There the guests relax in a Finnish and a bio sauna – including a lake view. You can cool off in the lake plunge pool or in the Ruppiner See.

This can be accessed directly from the floating sauna. The relaxation areas such as the roof terrace or the reading lounge also face the water.

"Thermal baths & bathing world Sinsheim"

Take a sauna and watch colorful koi at the same time: This is what the "Thermen & bathing world" offers. It is located in the town of Sinsheim between Heilbronn and Heidelberg. The sauna selection is large, but a tip: opt for the "Koi sauna", which is designed in Japanese style.

Only a panorama window separates the 70 degree sauna from the large pool in which the expensive fish do their rounds. By the way: the Koi sauna holds the Guinness world record with a good 166 square meters for the largest sauna in the world.

"Monte mare lake sauna", Tegernsee

A sauna on a ship – you will find it on the banks of the Tegernsee. The “Irmingard” watercraft dates from 1925 and has been converted into a 90-degree sauna. From there, guests have a good view of the Tegernsee and the Alpine panorama – light waves included.

And what could be nicer than stepping straight into the lake after the sauna and cooling off? For the necessary relaxation after visiting the ship's sauna, you can go to the “captain's cabin”, the relaxation area in the bow. In addition to “Irmingard”, the “monte mare lake sauna” has other saunas with a view of the lake.

"Bergkristall Natur und Spa", Oberstaufen

Enjoy the view of the alpine panorama of Germany, Austria and Switzerland while having a sauna – that is possible in the "Bergkristall Natur und Spa" in the Allgäu. In the panorama sauna there, it feels as if you are in the middle of the surrounding scenery.

The view sweeps over the mountains through the huge window of the sauna. You are even often lucky enough to see a red deer in the on-site wildlife park – without rousing the animal. The mountains can also be seen from the outdoor pool.
