Sweden to send dozens of Leopard tanks to Ukraine

STOCKHOLM, Feb 24 (Reuters) – Sweden said on Friday it will deliver about 10 Leopard 2 tanks and HAWK anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine as part of an 11th military aid package.

“Swedish tanks reinforce the contribution of Leopard 2s that other European countries are providing. Coordination of support is ongoing with international partners who donate Leopard 2s or other tanks,” the government said in a statement.

Sweden will do “everything possible to send this military aid as quickly as possible,” Defense Minister Pal Jonson said at a press conference.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced earlier on Friday that Warsaw had delivered a first batch of four Leopard tanks pledged by Poland to Ukraine. (Report Anna Ringstrom and Simon Johnson, French version Kate Entringer, edited by Matthieu Protard)
