A cruel end to the race for Mewen Tomac. This Friday, the Frenchman finished fourth in the 200m backstroke final of the world swimming championships in Fukuoka, Japan, with a time of 1:55.79. Third at the start of the last 50 meters, the 21-year-old swimmer broke down at the end of the race before being caught by the Swiss Roman Mityukov (1:55.34). In front, the Hungarian Hubert Kos won to afford the first world title of his career at 20 years (1:54.14) and allow Hungary to pocket a first gold medal this week. World champion in the 100 backstroke a few days earlier, Ryan Murphy (1:54.83) will have to settle for silver.
