Soon an “open category” for transgender swimmers? In any case, this was announced by Husain Al-Musallam, the president of the International Swimming Federation, on the occasion of the Worlds currently taking place in Budapest, Hungary. Swimming thus intends to become “the first sport” to take such a measure.
“I don’t want a sportsman to be told he can’t compete at the highest level,” Al-Musallam told an extraordinary congress of the body held during the World Championships . “I will set up a working group to create an open category during our competitions. We will be the first federation to do so.”
