Riana in the first attempt, Baschi in the fifth: The two celebrate the first “Swiss Music Award” of their careers. The Appenzell native is the “SRF 3 Best Talent” annual winner. The dialect musician finally creates the moment of happiness in Zurich’s Hallenstadion. And rapper EAZ sheds tears of joy.

Appenzeller dialect, an incomparable soul voice: 24-year-old Riana won the concrete block in the “SRF 3 Best Talent” category at the “Swiss Music Awards” 2024 award ceremony, joining the list of prominent predecessors such as Nemo , Lo & Leduc, Hecht, Joya Marleen or Steff La Cheffe.

The musician confidently expressed her thanks at the award ceremony: “Apparently everyone in Innerrhöd voted for me.” According to statistics, that would be 15,500 people.

The hit of the year is “Juicy” by EAZ

EAZ with “Juicy”, Hecht with “Amigo” or Remo Forrer with “Watergun” were the questions in the top category for the hit of the year. Or: an international dialect rap hit, a dialect anthem or last year’s ESC entry? The decision was made by telephone voting during the television broadcast.

Rapper EAZ celebrated with jumping for joy, hugs, real joy, a long speech and tears of joy.

The winners of the evening

Joya Marleen for the fourth, premiere of Nola Kin

Two years ago, Joya Marleen from St. Gallen was the winner of the evening and picked up three “Swiss Music Awards”: This time there is another one for her collection. The 21-year-old is celebrated as the best female artist.

The Zurich musician Nola Kin can be happy about the “Artist Award”, the prize that musicians give to each other. She was incredibly happy about being nominated, and she never thought she could actually win the prize.

Baschi finally has the first concrete block

Baschi was almost talking about the Leonardo Di Caprio effect. He has been regularly nominated in recent years but has always come away empty-handed. Until now, on his fifth attempt. The 37-year-old prevailed against rapper EAZ and dialect rocker Gölä and won the first concrete block in the category as best male artist. His acceptance speech: long. Uninhibitedly long. But also touching with a declaration of love for his wife.

With Züri West as “Best Group” (guitarist Küse Fehlmann: “Suberi Büetz, Kuno would say.”) and Patent Ochsner as “Best Live Act”, two Bernese music institutions won further prizes. As an admirer of Black Sea Dahu, Patent Ochsner symbolically shares the award with the tirelessly touring Zurich indie folk band.

The “Best Act Romandie” also goes to the Geneva rapper Slimka.

Ländler and folk music are trump cards

The fact that folk music is very popular was already evident from the nomination list at this year’s “Swiss Music Awards”: In addition to Heimweh and the Stubete Gäng, the Genderbüebu and the Rüsch-Büeblä were up for choice for the first time.

The Rüesch-Büeblä, the young wild ones of the scene, were successful: the twin brothers Simon and Cyrill and their father Roger won the newcomer award “Best Breaking Act”. Stubete Gäng from Zug was named “Best Streaming Act”.

Tina Turner and Nemo

Tina Turner was honored as a woman, a person, a music icon and her work was recognized. The Swiss woman died almost a year ago, on May 24, 2023.

And Nemo received a greeting from the former ESC participants present: With a video from Anna Rossinelli, Marius Bear, Remo Forrer, Michael von der Heide and Peter Reber.
