Shortly after Marco Odermatt’s great Super G success, Swiss-Ski sent out an invitation to a spontaneous media conference in Wengen. It’s not about the ski stars who are currently causing a sensation in Wengen, but about Carlo Janka. “The Graubünden athlete would like to invite you to join,” says the media release.

The 35-year-old has not yet completed a race in the current ski season – has been struggling with back problems for years. In Wengen it is therefore expected that Janka will announce his retirement at 3:30 p.m. and that his career will end with the races on the Lauberhorn this weekend.

Janka has won eleven World Cup victories in his career and even won the overall World Cup in winter 2009/2010. In 2009 he was also world champion in giant slalom in Val-d’Isere – a year later he followed up with giant slalom gold at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
