Switzerland: A girl kidnapped by her mother at the age of 5 in the Var was found eleven years later

Eleven years after being kidnapped, Camille Chauvet was found in Switzerland on March 1. It was the arrest of Priscilla Majani, her mother, on the shores of Lake Geneva, in the canton of Pays de Vaud, which allowed investigators to find the young girl, according to information from Var-Matin.

We had to go back to March 2011 to find the last trace of Camille Chauvet, who was then 5 years old. That day, her mother, a former military engineer, had decided to flee from Carqueiranne, in the Var, with her daughter to obtain sole custody. In the process of divorcing her husband, she feared that she would not be able to obtain it because of many antecedents which worked against her.

Two months before Camille’s kidnapping, Priscilla Majani had already begun to no longer respect the principle of shared custody. According to Var-Matin, she had also been sentenced three times by the Toulon court for “non-representation of a minor”, “slanderous denunciation” and “child abduction”.

A relieved and anxious father

Questioned by the journalists of Nice-Matin, Alain Chauvet, the father of the young girl, does not want yet to imagine the first meeting with his child, eleven years after his abduction: I am very afraid. This is the great unknown. I am very afraid of what I will discover. I’m afraid of being confronted with a categorical refusal from Camille in relation to what we must have put in her head during all these years. I know very well that it will be an extreme difficulty. My daughter has probably been immersed in a sectarian environment, with real “madmen of God”, and I plan to file a complaint in Switzerland”.

Alain Chauvet believes that French justice has not sufficiently protected his daughter while certain signals concerning the behavior of his ex-wife were rather worrying. An extradition procedure should be initiated for Priscilla Majani to return to France and be tried.

Six years in prison for Priscilla Majani

French justice having imposed six years in prison on Priscilla Majani, the latter can oppose the judgments pronounced given her absence for more than eleven years. Camille, now 16, has been placed with an organization in the canton of Vaud protecting children.
