  • Rail traffic was further affected in eastern Switzerland on Sunday morning due to the onset of winter.
  • Two routes on the Rhaetian Railway were still interrupted.
  • The snow is likely to stay for the moment: Low temperatures of -21.1 degrees were recorded early in the morning.

Traffic at Rorschach SG station was restricted due to a contact line fault and trains no longer ran between Kreuzlingen TG and Konstanz. According to SBB, the St. Margrethen SG-Munich route was also restricted. According to Deutsche Bahn, the disruptions to rail traffic in southern Germany will last until at least Monday.

According to SBB, rail traffic between Schaffhausen and the German town of Singen was also interrupted in the morning. The reason for this was a fallen tree and the disruption was expected to last until late afternoon.

Flight operations have been possible again at Munich airport since Sunday morning. The company announced this on its website. However, hundreds of flights are canceled. And according to DB information, it is still not possible to reach the main train station in the Bavarian capital. Traffic on the streets eased again after the massive snowfall on Saturday.

The snow and cold also affected the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) route network on Sunday: On the Albula line, the route between Thusis and Tiefencastel was interrupted due to a contact line fault. Replacement rail buses were running, as the RhB announced. There is no replacement transport for the interrupted route between Davos and Filisur until further notice.

Bitterly cold Sunday morning

The snow probably won’t disappear that quickly in some places: The weather service SRF Meteo reported temperatures of -21.1 degrees in Samedan GR, -20.6 degrees in La Brévine NE or -15 degrees in Arosa GR on Sunday morning shortly after 6 a.m. In Zurich-Kloten the weather service measured -10.3 degrees, in St. Gallen -5.4 degrees.
