Switzerland supports house renovations in Georgia

The background to the move are the provisions of the Paris Climate Agreement. In 2017, Switzerland committed itself to halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The aim is to limit global warming to well below two degrees, but if possible 1.5 degrees.

The Federal Council and Parliament want to achieve the climate target primarily through domestic measures. However, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement also allows states to offset their emissions by investing in climate protection projects abroad. Switzerland can count the emission reductions achieved abroad in this way towards its national reduction target.
