For ten years, from 1995 to 2005, Sylvester Stallone experienced a slump. From Judge Dredd (1995), a catastrophic adaptation of the work of John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and which experienced a resounding failure, the studios turned away from the actor. His image, already tarnished by titles like L’Embrouille est dans le sac or Stop or my mother is going to shoot, is very affected.
From then on, at the bottom of the wave, Stallone made a lot of bad films in which his talent was underused. Only Copland stands out during this period. Stallone gains weight to play the role of the sheriff of a small town and rubs shoulders with Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel or even Ray Liotta.
He only returns to the front of the stage thanks to his cinematographic alter-egos: Rocky Balboa (2006) then John Rambo (2008). In two very different registers, Stallone shows that we always have to reckon with him. Two years later, a new franchise was created: Expendables, which will have two sequels, and which allows the “grandpas” of action cinema to show that they are still there.
