Sylvie Meis is known for her radiant appearances! The presenter knows exactly how to put herself in the spotlight – and how to hide her true feelings.
Sylvie Meis “doesn’t want to disappoint anyone”
“Of course there are moments when I’m sad when things aren’t going well in my private or professional life. Then I’d like to pull a blanket over my head. But that’s not possible. I don’t want to lose my dignity. So I leave the house with my head held high and beaming,” admits Sylvie Meis in a recent interview with “Bild”. Only her “family and closest friends” know how she “really feels”. The reason: “My advertising partners always deserve the best possible Sylvie. For me, that’s part of the business. Every fan also gets a photo with me if I’m politely asked. Social media is an important platform for me. I’m a role model for many and I don’t want to disappoint anyone,” explains Meis.

“If I hadn’t gotten sick, I would definitely have had a second child”
In an interview with the publication, the presenter also looks back on her first marriage to the former Dutch football player Rafael van der Vaart, 41. “It was love at first sight for both of us. We got married after two years, our dream child was born in 2006, and we moved to Madrid in 2008. I always wanted to be a mother. If I hadn’t gotten sick, I would definitely have had a second child,” says Meis openly and honestly, before talking about what was probably the darkest time of her life: In June 2009, it was announced that the presenter had breast cancer.
“I was scared to death,” Sylvie Meis recalls tearfully in an interview with “Bild”. “I think about the cancer every day. The illness has made me a different Sylvie. Rafael accompanied me through this terrible time, we loved each other. But I also began to emancipate myself and to take every professional opportunity that presented itself. The dynamic in our marriage changed.” In 2008, Meis joined the “Supertalent” jury, in 2010 she danced her way to second place in “Let’s Dance” and then hosted the show alongside Daniel Hartwich, 46, until 2017.
