Sylvie Meis and Rafael van der Vaart apparently continue to get along well. The presenter raves about her blended family.
Sylvie Meis (42) and her ex-husband Rafael van der Vaart (37) apparently get along well. The presenter revealed on Wednesday on "SAT.1 breakfast television": "We have the best evenings." There are a couple of bottles of wine and she is holding Jesslynn, van der Vaart's little daughter, on her lap: "She cuddles, we play darts, we talk." About the partner of her ex-husband, Estavana Polman (28), Meis says: "I love Estavana, this is a woman after my heart. This blended family works, which one always hopes!" You couldn't be happier, said the 42-year-old.
Together with Rafael van der Vaart, Sylvie Meis has the 14-year-old son Damián. And for her, the child's planning is "completely finished," she explained: "I have had cancer behind me." She's still doing hormone therapy, "that means it's not a question for me at all. And I have the best child in the world!" In 2009, Meis was diagnosed with breast cancer. The tumor was surgically removed, then she underwent supportive chemotherapy.
"A great loss"
Her son Damián has now moved to his father in Denmark for his football career: "I didn't want him to leave," said Meis: "It felt like a great loss as a mother to let the child go so young." But when he told her that it was his dream and he wanted to take this chance now, she spoke to Rafael. She talks to her son via FaceTime every day, "It's very, very nice and I need that too. Because it's a very, very intense time right now."
In the conversation with Marlene Lufen (49), Sylvie Meis also raved about her husband Niclas Castello (42), whom she described as the "best husband in the world". The two said yes in September, about a year after the engagement. Meis was married to ex-soccer star van der Vaart from 2005 to 2013. Their son Damián was born in 2006. Van der Vaart has been in a relationship with the Dutch handball player Estavana Polman since 2016. Their daughter Jesslynn was born in 2017.
